The English Premier League kicks off this weekend, and we will take a close look on how the biggest teams will lineup during the season. Here we take a look at Manchester United who will play under new manager Jose Mourinho.
- TRANSFER SEASON IMPACT
Manchester United have made the biggest impact during this transfer season starting with signing former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. The special one has won the Champions League previously with Porto and Inter and the Premier League with Chelsea. He established his name as one of the best managers in the game and now he takes charge of a team looking to bounce back into top form.
The Red Devils were the most active on the transfer market signing Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan and bringing Paul Pogba back while setting a new record with the transfer fee. Will the team find their form back this season despite big egos in the dressing room?
2. PLAYING STYLE
Jose Mourinho has always preferred to use an efficient counter attacking style of football. This will probably not change for him while managing United. Mourinho is expected to use a 4–3–3 formation with Pogba tasked with finding the quick link between defense and attack.
David de Gea will no doubt be the first choice keeper for the Portuguese. In defense, Darmian might be the first choice in the right back position with Luke Shaw playing on the left. The center backs for the Red Devils are Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly. In midfield, either Schneiderlin or Blind could be starting in the holding midfield position now that Carrick might be counted out due to his age. Pogba and Rooney will be linking defense to attack with Pogba playing a bit deeper and Rooney taking the number 10 spot. The three forwards are Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Marcus Rashford could take Martial’s place or be a regular substitute in case things did not work during the match.
Other players such as Juan Mata, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera and others will probably settle for a place on the bench or leave the club.
4. NEXT MATCH
Manchester United’s first match is away from home against Bournemouth on Sunday, and Mourinho, the players and the fans will be expecting a positive result from the match.
